Resin + Glassing
What initially brought me to making surf craft was the art of glassing; the process of applying the fiberglass which serves as the functional and artistic aspect of a surfboard. As an art form and design process, few mediums compare to the elements the final product is exposed to. Glassing remains a component of surfboard manufacture where a skilled hand cannot be substituted nor surpassed, creating an ever increasing disparity in longevity between hand glassed and the alternatives.
My first exposure to the glassing process was in a shed in Makaha on the West Side of Oahu where I was given a glimpse of four decades of experience, aesthetic, and heritage applied to the craft. I have since been able to develop my own aesthetic in making my own craft start to finish, while also glassing boards for a variety of experienced board makers. I have had the opportunity to do resin work in a variety of countries for a diverse range of builders and communities.
