Knästorp Farmhouse

Skåne, Sweden

In 2018 a close friend asked me to come to southern Sweden to assist them turn a farmhouse barn into three apartment units with two floors, and two bedrooms each. What I have enjoyed about working in Sweden is the ways in which structural and cultural design is preserved when modernizing, and the end products can result in beautifully executed structures that augment the historical elements. Although striving to make the units equal in size, and ideal for students or small families working or studying in nearby Lund, we were able to accommodate elements of the barn, such as the extended second floor window, and a balcony with stairs off the farther side, to make each unit unique.
