While working at Fundación Escalera in Chiapas, the Executive Director tasked an interior designer in the US with designing the space of the new offices, as well as commissioning locally made office furniture that could be utilized both sitting and standing, function interchangeably, and meet a minimalist, 'raw' aesthetic. I was subsequently tasked with actually carrying out the ideas of the interior designer, and working with a local carpenter in his 70's, the furniture for the new Escalera offices was created. I ascertained a comfortable height for the tables to be utilized standing by almost all the staff, yet designed to be easily moved or combined with the other tables for work projects, meetings with community members, or taken outside to be utilized in the courtyard, yet be sturdy and centered enough to not be unstable despite their height. The stools were made with the same wood and iron components, and following the concept of the interior direction in the US, be ergonomic. I selected the wood to age well, yet meet the 'raw' aesthetic yet catch the eye within the space.
