At the Mouth of the River

BOAT Magazine No. 11

A piece I did for Boat magazine in 2016 on one of the few organic wave riding communities in the world, that occurred due to the geographic and political isolation of the far east of Cuba. Venturing via train to his village on the river mouth of the Yumurí river, where he began riding waves in front of his mothers house on anything that could float, I spent a few days with Roberto Campdesuñer Romero, who didn't even see a surfboard until he had been riding waves alone for almost 10 years.
