Calle 70, La Habana
Short film with Dane Christensen
Growing up alongside the Cuban diaspora in South Florida, the perception and mythology of the city 90 miles across the Florida Straits is complex, passionate, painful, and dominated by the loudest voices and half a century of embargo. In early 2015 a friend and I traveled to Havana, where respectfully and promptly 1/2 of our camera equipment was confiscated at customs. With just the name of a street written down, we ventured out to meet the surfing community of Havana, who's main wave in the city is at the end of 70th street. We made a short film of connecting with this small community of surfers who ride the same swells.
